AI is not the transformation.
People capability is.

Fuel’s AI Adoption Leader programme helps organisations build the practical, responsible and commercially disciplined capability needed to use AI well. Learners do not simply learn about AI tools; they learn how to identify meaningful opportunities, redesign workflows, support adoption, manage risk and deliver measurable improvements in real workplace performance.

Real tools, applied to real workflows, with governance built in.

The business case,
not just the training case.

  • Capability

Learners can read data, question outputs and spot where AI genuinely fits.

  • Behaviour

They redesign workflows, govern risk properly, and bring colleagues with them.

  • Outcome

Time saved, cost avoided, quality and service improved, evidenced not assumed.

Where most AI training
stops, and this one starts.

Most AI training starts with the tool. This one starts with the organisation, and that changes everything downstream.

All Six Capabilities

What learners build, and
why it matters to you

Each capability pairs a skill the learner takes away with the value it creates back in the business.

Data Culture

Learners Develop
Confidence to assess data quality,
readiness, trust and evidence-based
decision-making.

Employer Value
AI is only useful when people can
understand, question and act on
data responsibly.

Organisational Capability

Learners Develop
Skills to map workflows, identify
opportunities, support adoption
and redesign work.

Employer Value
Turns AI from isolated experimentation
into practical improvement in how
work gets done.

Critical Thinking

Learners Develop
Routines for evaluating, verifying
and improving AI-generated
outputs.

Employer Value
Reduces over-reliance, improves
decision quality and keeps human
judgement central.

AI Economics

Learners Develop
Commercial judgement about cost,
effort, productivity, efficiency and
business case.

Employer Value
Helps employers avoid technology
for technology’s sake and make
disciplined investment choices.

Governance & Risk

Learners Develop
Understanding of responsible AI,
privacy, bias, assurance, documentation
and accountability.

Employer Value
Supports safe, lawful, trusted
and explainable use of AI across
the organisation.

Value Realisation

Learners Develop
Ability to define outcomes,
measure impact and evidence
workplace improvement.

Employer Value

What makes this
programme different?

Most AI training focuses on prompts, platforms or general awareness. Fuel’s programme is different because it starts with the organisation, not the tool. We help learners ask better questions.

The result is a practical programme for organisations that want AI to improve performance, productivity and decision-making in the real world. Learners build confidence with AI and automation, but they also learn how to evaluate outputs, manage risk, support colleagues, design human-centred workflows and evidence impact.

This programme is best paired with Fuel’s Level 5 AI Transformation Leader units, for the managers sponsoring this programme.

The questions we ask learners:

  • Where can AI genuinely improve work?
  • What data, governance and capability need to be in place?
  • How should humans remain in control?
  • What will it cost?
  • How will we know whether it has created value?

What learners and employers gain

This is for employers who want AI to improve performance, not simply increase activity. Fuel’s programme gives learners the confidence and structure to move from interest and experimentation to responsible, measurable and sustainable AI-enabled improvement.

Learners will be able to…Employers will gain…
Identify realistic AI and automation opportunities in their own workplace.Build internal AI capability: develop people who can apply AI and automation to real organisational problems.
Map processes and redesign workflows to reduce waste, duplication and manual effort.Improve productivity: identify inefficient workflows and create practical improvements that save time and reduce duplication.
Use AI and automation tools responsibly to support productivity, quality and service improvement.Support responsible adoption: strengthen governance, data quality, assurance and human oversight.
Evaluate AI outputs critically, checking accuracy, bias, relevance and risk before action is taken.Reduce dependency on external expertise: create confident internal champions who understand the organisation’s context.
Build or contribute to low-code, no-code or AI-enabled workflow solutions.Generate measurable value: connect learning to workplace projects, portfolio evidence and business outcomes.
Apply responsible AI principles, including data protection, fairness, transparency, accessibility and human oversight.Create a culture of learning: help teams move beyond AI hype towards disciplined experimentation, critical thinking and continuous improvement.
Communicate with stakeholders, support adoption and help colleagues build confidence with AI-enabled ways of working.Improve adoption: give teams practical support, clearer communication and confidence to use AI safely.
Measure whether AI activity has created value through time saved, cost avoided, improved quality, better customer experience or reduced risk.Evidence impact: through clearer measures of time saved, cost avoided, quality improved, customer experience strengthened or risk reduced.

FAQs

What does it cost us?

If you pay the Apprenticeship Levy, the programme is fully covered by it, up to the £18,000 funding band, with no course fees on top. Non-levy employers access the same programme with government covering 95% of the cost. One call and we’ll confirm your exact position.

How much time does it take out of the working week?

Around six hours a week of off-the-job learning, built into working hours: one three-hour workshop a month, a monthly coaching session, and project work that is the participant’s own role, done better. Most managers report time returned within the first cycle, not lost.

What about our data in AI tools?

Safe, compliant use is trained from day one, not bolted on. Participants learn to work within your organisation’s AI and data policies: what can and can’t go into which tool, how to check outputs, and how to build quality and data protection into every process they touch. If your organisation restricts certain tools, the programme adapts to the ones you’ve approved.

We use Microsoft Copilot / we don’t allow ChatGPT. Does the programme still work?

Yes. The skills of prompting, checking, challenging and building AI into a process transfer across every tool. We train on what your people can actually use at their desks.

What does the line manager have to do?

A short briefing at the start, sight of the ROI tracker as results land, and the final decision that their apprentice is ready for assessment. We handle the rest, including all scheduling if they prefer.

What if we invest in them and they leave?

The stronger risk runs the other way: development is one of the biggest drivers of retention, and people who are invested in stay. And because participants coach colleagues and document every improvement, the processes, templates and time savings remain yours even in the worst case.

Who is eligible?

Anyone employed in England, aged 16 or over, in a role that fits the standard. Prior qualifications rarely block enrolment, and English and maths requirements are handled within the programme in line with funding rules. We check all of this for you before anyone commits.

How many people do we need to enrol?

Cohorts work at any size, from a handful in one department to a rolling intake across the organisation. Larger cohorts compound the return: participants coach each other, improvements spread faster, and the ROI tracker rolls everything into one report you can put in front of the board.

When can they start?

We have new cohorts starting every quarter.
